Temple football will play in the Big East this upcoming year, while the rest of Temple sports will make the jump in 2013.
Temple basketball will now be able to build a strong rivalry with another Philly team, Villanova.
UCONN Coach Jim Calhoun referred to Temple as a "great addition".
With West Virginia leaving for the Big 12 in 2012, and Pittsburgh and Syracuse moving to the ACC in 2014, the Big East had to act fast.
They immediately added UCF, Houston, Memphis and SMU. Boise State, Navy, and San Diego State will also be joining, but only for football.
