Phillies To Sign Infielder Fontenot

Phillies new infielder Mike Fontenot.

The Phillies are getting a little infield help.

ESPN's Jim Bowden is reporting Utility IF Mike Fontenot will sign a minor league contract with the Philadelphia Phillies.

Earlier today it was reported Fontenot was deciding between the Braves and the Phillies.

The 31 year old is a career .263 hitter with 26 HRs and 155 RBIs.

He spent 4 years with the Chicago Cubs, and spent last year with the San Francisco Giants.

Fontenot will definitely provide some depth, because he can play second, short, and third base.

Freddy Galvis is not ready to handle the load entirely on his own at Second Base, and Fontenot will be able to give him a day off or two.
