Do Not Get Carried Away: Tebow Is Not Coming To Philadelphia

The Denver Broncos had themselves one heck of a day today, and it may not be over.

Right before noon, Peyton Manning placed a call to the Broncos' VP of football operations (and former Quarterback) John Elway. Manning stated he was looking forward to playing in Denver, and he will be signing a contract with the team.

According to multiple reports, the deal could be in the ballpark of 5 years, $95 million. Not bad for a QB who is still recovering from four neck surgeries.

However, with one sweepstakes coming to an end, another one begins. Ladies and gentlemen the Tebow sweepstakes starts...right now!

Immediately, multiple teams were thrown into the mix. San Francisco, Jacksonville, and of course, the Philadelphia Eagles.

Before you run out and buy your midnight green Tebow jerseys and attempt to run Michael Vick out of town, think.

Tim Tebow? Really? He out of all people would be the QB to lead the Eagles to a Super Bowl?

The obvious answer is no, and that is correct answer.

If Tebow was acquired by the Eagles, he would by no means start over Michael Vick. Vick will be in Philadelphia for the near future, and "Tebowmania" would be back to warming up a seat on the bench.

When Tebow's name is brought up, one of the first topics of discussion are his poor throwing mechanics.

By no means is that "hating", it is a mere statement of facts. Tebow's long release and his inability to throw in the pocket will get him killed by teams who constantly bring the blitz (just like the Cowboys and Giants).

"But Jake, Michael Vick can tutor Tebow and help him become an efficient quarterback."

Michael Vick would probably one of the last people Tebow should learn anything from.

Vick, who has played in the NFL for eight seasons, is still learning how to become a pocket passer.

The Eagles knew Vick was a large project when they signed him, and have worked tirelessly with him. I do not believe they would want to do that all over again with Tebow.

An even more important question: Would Vick even be open to bringing in Tebow as his protege?

The last thing Vick wants or needs is a 24 year old, competitive player hot on his trail for the starting job.

Michael Vick could throw for 300 yards on a MNF game against Dallas,  and Tebow would still command headlines.

After being dubbed the "Dream Team" last year and failing miserably, the Eagles do not need another soap opera in the form of Tim Tebow.

If the Eagles want Vick to play well and be happy, they're best off staying as far away as they can from Tebow.

A true option for Tim Tebow: Jacksonville. New owner Shad Khan has stated numerous times he likes Tebow, and would have drafted him two years ago. The Jaguars want to attract some fans, and Tebow is the way to go.

Even if Tebow cannot find a job in the NFL, there will always be one spot open for him: Skip Bayless's heart.

  1. Great article! And a really great point about Vick not wanting to tutor Tebow. Why would Vick want to help Tebow learn, only so he can eventually take Vick's spot. And I don't really mind having Vick as a QB. Right, he isn't a great pocket passer, and isn't the ideal QB, but his scrambling ability, speed, and athleticism are great qualities. Like I said, great article!

  2. The real value in Tebow would come as a 3rd-and-short running back, which has been the bane of our existence in the last God-knows how many years. If used properly in such a role, he can provide a dimension missing with this team. And it's not like Tebow would complain about it.

Nicely written from that particular point of view, by the way.

    1. I'm sure Tebow would handle that very maturely, although I'm sure he would not be too happy about it. Would he be effective in a wildcat type role? Yes. But how many times would the team that picks him up want to rely on that formation?

Thank you for reading. Glad you enjoyed it.
