Penguins Take Game 5, Series Heads Back To Philly

Matt Carle and Jordan Staal fight for a puck.

To say Game 4 was a disaster would be an understatement. Pittsburgh dropped 10 goals, and basically forced the Flyers to call them daddy, at least for one night.

So the series headed back to the Pittsburgh with the Flyers still holding a commanding 3-1 lead.

The team that has scored first this series have gone to lose the game. That is bad news for Flyers fans because Matt Carle scored a goal from the point that would trickle through Fleury's legs.

Pittsburgh would have an answer on their Power Play, as Steve Sullivan netted his 2nd of the series to bring the score to 1-1.

With Evgeni Malkin and Craig Adams in the box, the Flyers were given a 5-3 Power Play and took advantage. Scott Hartnell was finally able to score his 1st of the series on a feed from Danny Briere, and the Flyers went up 2-1.

However, the 1st period was surprisingly defensive, and the 1st period ended with the Flyers leading 2-1.

The Penguins would come firing in the 2nd period, as Jordan Staal scored his 6th to tie the score at 2-2.

A little more than 3 minutes later, the Penguins would take the lead on a goal from Tyler Kennedy.

Midway through 2 periods, James Van Riemsdyk, who was playing his first game since March 1st, had only registered 1:57 of ice time, and no time on the Power Play.

But the Penguins would head into the 2nd intermission up 3-2, and the momentum was entirely going the Pens way.

The Flyers came out in the third look extremely flat, attempting to hard to get the home run pass. They look disjointed and could get nothing going whatsoever.

With Tyler Kennedy heading to the box midway through, the Flyers were given their best chance to tie the game up at 3.

Yet the Power Play sequence would belong to Marc-Andre Fleury, stoning the Flyers Danny Briere and Scott Hartnell multiple times.

Turns out the entire 3rd period, and the game, would belong to Fleury. He would stop 24 shots on 26 attempts, and single handedly kept the Penguins lead alive.

The Flyers were just tired down the stretch, as Laviolette was double shifting guys like Giroux and Jagr just to get one goal.

The series heads back to Philadelphia on Sunday, where the Flyers hope to put away the Penguins for good.
