Life On The Edge: Flyers Win Game 1 In OT

Voracek celebrates with his teammates after scoring the Game Winner

For any Flyers fan, it may have looked like they suffered from Multiple Personalities Syndrome.

Fear not, that is just how we act after overcoming a 3-0 deficit.

With all the hype surrounding Pittsburgh, they came out firing in the first. Sidney Crosby notched the first goal of the night almost four minutes in. The puck deflected off of Nicklas Grossmann (who returned from injury tonight), and right to Crosby.

After Tyler Kennedy scored a goal to make it 2-0, Peter Laviolette tried to work his magic with a timeout early almost midway through the first.

It would be to no avail, as Pascal Dupuis was able to sneak one by Bryzgalov, and the Penguins went into the 1st intermission up 3-0.

After trailing by two or more goals in a game, the Flyers were 7-23-3.

The Flyers were able to generate no offense whatsoever in the 1st, as they spent most of the period in the defensive zone, or dumping and chasing the puck in behind Fleury.

The Penguins played like the clear favorites, while the Flyers were barely showing any life at all.

If there was one bright spot in the first for the Flyers, it was rookie Brayden Schenn.

He carried his strong play into the 2nd period, assisting on a Danny Briere breakaway goal.

It was a do or die period for the Flyers, and they pulled within two heading into the 3rd period.

Ever so slightly, you could feel the momentum shifting in the Flyers direction.

It took them two periods, but the Flyers finally went on the all out attack in the 3rd.

Instead of the ol' dump and chase, the Flyers were finally setting up shop in the Penguins zone.

It was soon to pay off.

Danny Briere, who should just go by Mr. April from now on, scored his second of the night. The puck went through Fleury's legs, but a goal is a goal, and the Flyers cut the deficit to 3-2.

After Brooks Orpik went to the penalty box for Interference, the Flyers got their first power play of the game.

They did not let the opportunity go to waste. On a feed from Jaromir Jagr, Brayden Schenn was able to send home a goal.

Schenn who had been dishing the puck all night, finally found the puck on the end of his stick.

So the Flyers and Penguins headed into a dreaded Overtime, with the winner coming out of Game 1 with a massive advantage.

Before the Overtime period, GM Paul Holmgren announced Marc-Andre Bourdon was day-to-day with an upper body injury, and would not return in Game 1.

However, the Flyers commanded the Overtime just like they had in the 3rd period, and worked the puck in deep.

Matt Carle sent a weak slapshot towards the net, and there was Jakub Voracek who quietly snuck in behind Jordan Staal and deposited the winner.

With a 1-0 lead, the Flyers have all the momentum in the world for Friday's Game 2 in Pittsburgh.

Even in the playoffs, the Flyers find away to overcome steep deficits.

They call themselves the "Comeback Kids".

They proved that tonight.
